Samsung Washer Error Code 4C2

Water that is too hot is arriving through the cold-water inlet.

Also shown as: 4E2, CE, 14C2, nF1 Last verified: 2026-10-30

Safety first. Unplug the washer before opening any panel, touching wiring, or removing a pump filter cover. Turn the water taps off before disconnecting a hose. If water is leaking, turn the taps off first and do not keep running the machine. This page is general information, not professional repair advice.

Most likely causes, in order

CauseHow common
Hot and cold supply hoses swapped at the taps or at the washerMost common
Very hot water arriving through the cold inlet on a delicate or wool cycleCommon
A faulty temperature sensor or inlet valveLess common — service job

What to try, easiest first

  1. Switch the washer off and turn both taps off.
  2. Trace each hose: the hot tap hose must go to the hot inlet and the cold tap hose to the cold inlet. Swap them back if they are crossed.
  3. Run a short cold cycle and check the code clears.
  4. If the hoses are correct and the code returns, stop and book service — the temperature sensor or valve needs testing.

Reset procedure

Soft reset (first try): press Power to switch the washer off, wait about 2–3 minutes, switch it back on and restart the cycle. If the code was a one-off sensor glitch, it often clears here.

Hard reset: switch the washer off, unplug it from the wall outlet (or switch its breaker off) for 2–3 minutes, plug it back in and restart. Never open a panel or touch wiring while it is plugged in.

When to call a technician

Call a technician if the hoses are correctly connected and the code returns, or if water coming in feels scalding hot on a cold cycle.

Difficulty, time and cost

DifficultyEasy
Typical DIY time10–20 minutes (editorial estimate, not a quoted time)
Part / job cost$30–$85 for the inlet valve part alone. Part-only range from the part-cost guide; sensor or valve testing is a service job — get a quote first. Prices vary by model and area — treat every figure as an estimate, not a quote.

Model notes and limits

This code appears mainly on delicate and wool cycles, where the washer expects cool water first. It is a hose-routing fault far more often than a part fault.

Front-load and top-load models, AddWash/FlexWash models, and US versus UK displays can show the same fault differently. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model number (on the label inside the door or lid, or on the back of the washer) before ordering a part.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the washer care which hose is which?

On delicate and wool cycles the washer expects cool water at first. Hot water through the cold inlet trips this temperature check.

I just had plumbing work done and now this code appears. Why?

That is the classic sign the hoses were reconnected the wrong way round. Check the hose routing first — it is a five-minute fix.

Can I just run hot cycles to avoid it?

No. The fault check runs on the cycles that need cool water, and running everything hot will shrink or damage delicates.
