Samsung Washer Error Code PC

The clutch position cannot be detected.

Also shown as: PC1 Last verified: 2026-10-30

Safety first. Unplug the washer before opening any panel, touching wiring, or removing a pump filter cover. Turn the water taps off before disconnecting a hose. If water is leaking, turn the taps off first and do not keep running the machine. This page is general information, not professional repair advice.

Most likely causes, in order

CauseHow common
The clutch position sensor not reading the clutch positionMost common
A worn or jammed clutch mechanism on a top-load washerCommon
A wiring fault to the clutch sensorLess common — service job

What to try, easiest first

  1. Switch the washer off, unplug it for 2–3 minutes, plug it back in and restart with a normal load.
  2. Check the drum turns freely by hand and nothing is trapped at the drum edge.
  3. If the code returns on the next cycle, stop — clutch and sensor work means opening the machine and is a service job for most owners.

Reset procedure

Soft reset (first try): press Power to switch the washer off, wait about 2–3 minutes, switch it back on and restart the cycle. If the code was a one-off sensor glitch, it often clears here.

Hard reset: switch the washer off, unplug it from the wall outlet (or switch its breaker off) for 2–3 minutes, plug it back in and restart. Never open a panel or touch wiring while it is plugged in.

When to call a technician

Call a technician if the code returns after the reset, the drum will not agitate or spin, or you hear clicking from under the drum.

Model notes and limits

PC appears on top-load washers with a clutch drive. PC1 is the follow-on: the clutch position was detected but the signal is wrong. Front-load washers do not use this code family.

Front-load and top-load models, AddWash/FlexWash models, and US versus UK displays can show the same fault differently. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model number (on the label inside the door or lid, or on the back of the washer) before ordering a part.

Frequently asked questions

What does the clutch do in a top-load washer?

It switches the drum between agitating (washing) and spinning. If the washer cannot tell which position the clutch is in, it stops and reports this code.

Is this a front-load code too?

No — this code family appears on top-load models with a clutch. Front-load models use a different drive system.

Can I keep resetting it to finish a load?

No. Repeated resets with a failing clutch can leave a load soaking or damage the drive. Get it diagnosed after the first repeat.
